After hundreds of law enforcement offices carried a "Flame of Hope" torch through Northern California, the 2014 Special Olympics Summer Games gets underway this weekend in Davis.
More than 700 Special Olympics athletes will compete at the games through Sunday at the University of California at Davis. Opening ceremonies were at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Aggie Stadium.

After training and participating in qualifying events the athletes will participate in bocce, tennis, aquatics and track and field.
A full day of competition today begins at 7:30 a.m. with track and field and bocce, tennis and aquatics until noon.
The athletic events resume Sunday between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The athletes will head for home between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest supporter of the Special Olympics and its fundraising events include Tip-A-Cop at local restaurants.
The money provides year-round training and competition opportunities in 11 different sports.
