Incase you Missed it, here's the Letter to the Editor By Andi Horigan

Last year the Independent Voice ran a story on a young man, Devan Cox, and his health struggles. He was fighting a neurological disease known as CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) and also lymphoma. I am sad to report, that on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, this brave young man lost his battle with cancer.

A young lady, Miss Kalee Lindgren, wrote this on Devan’s Facebook page:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Devan, great job finishing the race the Lord has for you.

I couldn’t have said it better.

Devan’s fight is over, but his mother and sister still have a little way to go. Devan’s mom, Virginia Clark, has been his warrior and protector the entire time he has been sick. For the past two years, she has been his mom, friend, nurse, therapist, advocate, cheerleader, protector…his everything. She quit her job in order to provide her son with 24/7 care, and she did this completely by herself. This included her lifting him, bathing him, taking him to the bathroom, feeding him, exercising and stretching him, etc. As his caregiver, she was able to be paid, but when he went into the hospital this last time, two weeks ago, her pay as a caregiver stopped. Did I mention she also has a 16 year old daughter? Virginia is a strong person, with great faith in God and Jesus Christ. She will get back on her feet, but right now she needs some help to do that.

Virginia needs our help to provide for Devan’s funeral expenses. The people of this community have never ceased to amaze me with their generosity and caring, and I’m asking for the community’s help for this. Please, please, please, any donation you could provide to help this family would be greatly appreciated.

Since Devan has passed, funds deposited in his account could be tied up, so all donations should go to Chase Bank in Dixon in the Virginia Clark account (his mother), or they can do a quick pay by logging into www.chase.com and enter Virginia’s e-mail: virginiacbg@gmail.com.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call me at 707-246-2730, and thank you in advance for your help!
