Life's Too Short!

Here are some upcoming events in Dixon.

Sports Camp Hosted by Cornerstone

Children in our community have plenty to keep them busy even if we don’t have movie theaters or ice skating rinks—our local focus is on parks, pools, and sports. Which is why Cornerstone’s upcoming ‘Challenge Sports Camp’ is befitting to happen July 15-19 at Patwin Park.

Each summer, several churches host Vacation Bible Schools which help entertain and teach children solid values for American living. This camp will focus on going the distance mentally, physically, and spiritually!

This one is a very popular one maybe because Sheila Dybdahl is an expert in children since she is a long-time teacher at Neighborhood Christian School and Children’s Director for Cornerstone Church. Sheila’s enthusiasm and expertise is seen in every aspect of pulling this group of happy volunteers together to coordinate this well run event.

This year, the children will experience basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, softball and volleyball for all children who have finished first through sixth grade. Kindergartners can join for the soccer and cheer portion. Registration is $15 and includes the camp T-shirt but she noted some scholarships are available.

For more information, leave a message at the church office (707) 678-5234 or Dybdahl at (707) 678-6219 for more information. You can also learn more on the website:www.cornerstonedixon.com.

Vaca Valley Kiwanis Partners for Piggy Park

The Dixon Kiwanis Club is going to get some extra help with this year’s Grillin’ and Chillin’ Piggy Park thanks to the helping hands of the Vaca Valley Kiwanis Club. Club Presidents, Craig Rossiter from VV and Suzanne Lorente from Dixon are collaborating for volunteers to help run the many different fun activities for children that will be held in the Dixon Women’s Improvement Club Park during the Saturday, July 20 event.

This year’s helpers also include volunteers from Dixon Walmart who are going to be doing cooking demonstration for children’s healthy eating and how to grow your own vegetables with a lot of help from the Dixon Ace Hardware and Lumber folks. If you haven’t already carved out that Saturday, do so now. Your children will have a blast and you will too!

For more information on the Dixon club, you can call Lorente at (707) 678-6079. I will take this moment to let you know some of the local club members will be heading up to Reno for the annual District Convention in August 15-18 so now is a good time to join! At last year’s convention, Not only did we learn tons on how to get things accomplished in our communities, we also heard a most amazing inspiring (and hilarious) speaker that I will always remember.

DFS Hosts Comedy Show

Speaking of good entertainment, I am looking forward to the Dixon Family Services Comedy Night on Friday, July 26 at Denverton Hall at the Dixon May fairgrounds.  I shouldn’t have been surprised that our Dixon Police Chief Jon Cox will be the Master of Ceremony. For those who haven’t gotten a chance to get to know our police chief, he is a man of many talents and has the right heart for sure! It promises to be a fun-filled evening and includes a tri-tip dinner for the very affordable price of $25 in advance or $30 for tickets purchased at the door.

The comedians are Michael Mancini and Stephen B. There will also be a no host bar, raffles, and a Bake Sale/Auction. All proceeds benefit the community through Dixon Family Services programs.

This is another great thing about Dixon, you can usually get plenty of entertainment in this town by visiting with great friends and acquaintances at the many fundraising events each month—from fried fish at the Moose Lodge or Vet’s Hall, golf tournaments, crab feeds, or as in this case—steak!

TTFN!
