Press Release By Debra Dingman

Volunteer tree decorators for this year's 5th Annual Kiwanis Festival of Trees are invited to a special opportunity to select free ornaments and decorations on Thursday, October 3, 7-8:30 pm, at Atkinson Self Storage, 1800 North First Street.

It will be hosted by Manager Carol Parker and the Dixon Kiwanis.

Creative individuals or teams of volunteers decorate small, medium or large trees sponsored by 35 different Solano businesses from banks to hospitals for the event.

Their gift of time and energy goes to help benefit children in Dixon via proceeds from the giant silent auction slated for December 7-8 at the Olde Vet’s Hall, 231 North First Street.

The Festival of Trees is a major fundraiser that the Dixon Kiwanis Club works on all year. Last year, the event proved to be extremely popular with hundreds of families passing through the showroom and more than $7,000 collected for local children’s programs and services.

Some funds were also given to support the Kiwanis Family House that serves families who have had children admitted to the hospital via the UC Davis Emergency Room.

Anyone interested in ideas for the Dixon event can see the photos of last year’s event on the Dixon Kiwanis FaceBook page.

Interested parties will be given instructions on how to develop a theme although some businesses already have ‘built-in’ concepts such as a veterinary might be decorated with small dog or cat ornaments.

How elaborate and how special each tree will turn out is unique to each decorating team. The Dixon Kiwanis Club meets the second and fourth Mondays at Bud’s Pub for a no-host dinner at 6 pm.

The club was founded in 1915 in Indianapolis, Indiana and has grown to a global organization of volunteers dedicated to bettering the world one child at a time.

There are 600,00 members and nearly 15,000 clubs in more than 90 nations. For more information, call (707) 678-9198 or email FOT Chair Debra Dingman at dixonkiwanis@hotmail.com.
