Dixon's Fire Disaster of 1883, Dixon Library Photo Archive

Thank you to the Dixon Public Library for the fantastic photo of the week.

The Dixon Public Library (DPL) is a huge asset to the rich history in our town.

This is a photo, circa 1883, of the huge fire disaster that devastated downtown.
The DPL explained on their Facebook page:

Spectators standing in Jackson Street looking east at devastation. The fire started in the Centennial Hotel at B and Jackson Streets on a windy evening and burned the block of business between First St and A and B Streets in one hour.

Buildings in background are on the east side of Main (First) Street. After the fire the City required all new buildings be built of masonry.
