Dixon Churches Offer a Bevy of Christmas, Christmas Eve Services

Several local churches will be offering Christmas Eve and Christmas Services over the weekend.

The Spirit of Christmas will not be lost on the many churches celebrating the birth of Christ.

Join at 10 a.m., for its Christmas service. The church will explore the Old Testament (Isaiah 9:6-7) and New Testament (Luke 2:36-40). Pastor Dan Vraa will deliver a sermon titled “Christ’s Kingdom.” Dixon Community Church is located at 955 East A St. The church's Christmas Eve service begins at 7 p.m.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service begins at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 24. The church is located at 184 West Cherry Street. , located at 535 West H Street, will be celebrating Christmas Eve with a 7 p.m., service and Christmas with a 10 a.m., hour-long service.

Don’t miss Christmas Eve candlelight communion service at , 355 Pheasant Run Drive, 7 p.m. Also visit the church on Christmas for a Christmas Mass at 10 a.m.

Over at , located at 140 North First Street, Christmas Eve services will begin at 7 p.m. The special candlelight worship will also feature a children’s workshop.

will have three Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. (both services will include traditional scripture readings and carols). The final service will take place at 11 p.m. It will be a quiet and more reflective service with Holy communions.

All three of Dixon UMC’s services will include candles and the singing of “Silent Night, Holy Night.” There will be nursery care available at the 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. services.

, 470 East H St., will be having its Christmas Service Sunday at 10 a.m. The service will include a Christmas drama. The morning service will last until noon. All are welcome.

, the largest Catholic church in Dixon, will be celebrating Christmas Eve with a 5 p.m., English Mass, and a 7 p.m., Spanish Mass, and a 12 a.m., Midnight Bilingual Mass. Christmas Mass at St. Peter’s will take place in English at 8:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. Spanish Christmas Masses will take place at 1 p.m., and 5 p.m.

In addition, the church, located at 105 South Second St., will be celebrating the special holiday called Las Posadas. The celebration commemorates Mary and Joseph’s journey as they searched for lodging on the eve of Christ’s birth. It’s a holiday that’s widely celebrated throughout Latin American countries, here in the U.S. and in Dixon.

Las Posadas celebrations will take place today at 6:30 p.m., at the church's hall.
