Davis is known for its bike paths. We have many tunnels that go underneath roads so that our kids are safe from crossing those roads.
Well. last Thursday my 15-year-old son was attacked by four teenagers as he entered the bike tunnel under Loyola Drive in Mace Ranch. He was beaten and his wallet was taken. He reacted appropriately, got away and called 911. Luckily, he was not hurt too badly.

We tend to be complacent here in Davis because it is so seemingly safe. But I want people to be aware that when you are in or near a bike tunnel alone, you are not visible to the public and are therefore more at risk for something like this to occur.
Please talk to your children about this. My children will be detouring around the bike tunnels from now on. And I thank the Davis Police Department for its quick response time and their follow-up in this matter.
