Force of Habit Vies for Prestigious SAMMIE Award

Dixon hard rockers, Force of Habit, is making big noise with their nominations in 3 categories for the 21st Annual Sacramento News & Review SAMMIE Awards.

Dixon band, Force of  Habit (FOH) is making big time noise with their first award nominations. The 21st Annual SAMMIES, Sacramento Area Music Awards, have them vying for Best Teen Band,  Best New Band, and Best Hard Rock Band.

Since forming in January 2011, Brazjea Georges, 18, on lead/rhythm guitar; Ryan Mendisco, 17, on drums; Dominic Mendisco, 16, on guitar/lead vocals; and Dakota Binninger, 17, on bass/backup vocals “have crafted a sound that is hard enough and brutal enough to make you want to jump in the pit and let’er rip, yet accessible enough for the average rock fan to work their way to the rail and pump their fist” according to their Facebook fan page. Their music is categorized as Rock/Metal.

Excited about how these nominations will benefit FOH, Ryan says, “I think that these nominations will help my band because in this process, we are asking our fans to get involved by voting for us and it creates more of an interest. It also helps us gain new fans and popularity because other people involved in this contest who have never heard of us before will at least check us out. Its nothing but beneficial for the band to attempt to get a nomination.”

Dakota says winning these nominations “would make me feel like our band has credibility on the music scene. It would make me think about how many people really support us especially family and friends.”

The Sacramento News & Review polls readers for nominations, and are “designed to recognize emerging and popular Sacramento area bands and solo performers, and to illuminate the region's vibrant music scene,” says UrbanDictionary.com. Winners of SAMMIE awards include nationally known bands from Sacramento Cake and Deftones.

Band manager, and mother of two members, Patricia Mendisco says, “The band is proud of their hometown, and always conduct themselves in a way they hope makes the community proud of them. What started out as a couple of kids fiddling around in my garage has turned into a legitimate force on the music scene, their sales and sell out shows prove it.”

Brazjea proves these kids are committed to not only their band, but their education stating “my short term goals are to get more experience playing with other musicians as well as getting more stage experience. My long term goals are to go to music school to pursue a career in music.”

Force of Habit will be playing Oct. 6, at the Iconic Boardwalk in Orangevale, as main support act for the band Deadlands, and at the Sacramento Zombie Run, Oct. 27, at Miller Park in Sacramento.
